Conservation means harmony between mean and land. When land does well for its owner, the owner does well by his land; when both end up better by reason of their partnership, we have conservation. When one or the other grows poorer, we do not.

— Aldo Leopold,

The Farmer as a Conservationist, 1939

As soon as individuals with a cause have found one another out, they combine. From that moment, they are no longer isolated people, but a power seen from afar, whose actions serve as an example and whose language is listened to.

Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America, 1840

The radicals are the people who are fundamentally altering the composition of the atmosphere. That is the most radical thing people have ever done. Bill McKibben (350.org)

Earth Day 2011

EARTH DAY 2011: Thank You Earth! May we appreciate you more, and treat you better each passing year.

Earth Day 2011 – share your inspiration

Earth Day will be Friday, April 22, 2011.

So, how can we use that day to inspire us over the year to come? We’re going to use earthday.org’s great interactive idea as a launch pad (see below). You can participate by going to our Facebook page.

Earthday.org is putting on an event called a “billion acts of green” (or go to billionactsofgreen.org). The idea is to have a billion people pledge their personal act for the earth.

So, we’re encouraging you to make a pledge at the billionactsofgreen.org site, but also suggesting you say something on the facebook.com/tileafexpress page, so you can announce your pledge closer to home, here in Hawaii (pass the idea along to friends too!)

Here’s one more way to participate: post a picture (make sure its yours or you have rights), quote, link, or story that inspires you to help out mother earth, or if you want to think more locally, something that will help out mother Hawaii!

Here’s a cool picture created by Ferdi Rizkiyanto,  which says a lot!
